José Gaudet dives into the present moment… and into cold water!
Exclusive Interview with Comedian José Gaudet on Well-Being, Authenticity, and His Very First Cold Plunge
When we think of José Gaudet, we obviously think of his contagious laughter, his unforgettable shows, and his natural talent for connecting with the audience. But behind the comedian is a man deeply rooted in the present moment, seeking balance, and curious to explore new well-being practices — like the cold plunge ❄️
Laughter: a well-being practice in its own right
For José, humor is more than a profession: it's a form of active meditation. "During a show, you have no choice but to be attentive if you want to understand the jokes. You get into it, you're in the present moment. And that's like a therapeutic break."
A reflection that strongly resonates with the mission of the Joy Wellness Social Club, where events focused on humor and well-being will soon be offered.
His balance: authenticity, freedom, and self-care
What is striking about José is his unpretentious way of talking about well-being. His "tricks"? Simple, yet powerful things:
-
Taking time for himself, such as going for drives with no specific destination
-
Sleeping whenever his body asks for it
-
Reducing alcohol, as it triggers emotional eating for him
While writing his last one-man show, he gained 15 pounds due to stress and snacking: "I eat my emotions." Today, he says he is stabilizing, with a gentler routine.
And above all, he carefully chooses the projects he says yes to: "I do a few shows a week, I only accept contracts where I can be truly myself, not those where I have to fulfill an order."
Key to success according to José Gaudet: staying true to yourself
José was tested in the past when he was asked to produce content that didn't reflect him: "It never yielded a good result." What he learned? Staying true to oneself, to one's style, to one's essence. That's the key.
And even after all his successes, he still feels the need to prove himself capable by writing a new solo show. A quest not for recognition, but for alignment.
Cold plunge: first time, and certainly not the last!
It was his very first cold water immersion, and José loved the experience. He recounts how he overcame the first 20-30 seconds, the most difficult ones: "I talked to myself, I breathed, I overcame my thoughts telling me to get out."
A true moment of body-mind connection, just the way he likes them.
In conclusion: a genuine, grounded, and inspiring comedian
José Gaudet is more than a comedian. He is a genuine, funny, sensitive man who explores what it means to take care of oneself without taking himself too seriously. He reminds us that we can laugh, perform, create — all while remaining grounded, aligned, and human.
And yes, he will be back for another cold plunge. Because once you've gone through the cold... all that's left is clarity.
